Pennant awarded to SS Shieldhall

A Southampton-based steam ship is being presented with a pennant today after it was granted National Historic Ship’s Regional Flagship status.

Built in 1955 SS Shieldhall was originally used to carry sludge to dumping grounds in Scotland – but is now a passenger ship.

The Captain and Chief Engineer will be presented with the pennant at Shieldhall’s berth in Southampton later.

There are around 200 vessels on the National Historic Ships Register, all considered to be of national or regional significance in UK maritime history.
