Plymouth MP wants navy frigates based at Devonport

MPs will debate where the Royal Navy’s eight new Type 26 frigates will be based later.

The issue is being raised by Plymouth Labour MP, Luke Pollard, who wants to see the ships come to the city.

Labour has claimed if it was to form the next government, it would base the frigates at Devonport.

The new anti-submarine warfare frigates will be known as the City Class and are due to come into service in the mid-2020s.
