Princess teams with BAR Technologies for carbon yacht

Princess Yachts has confirmed that it is working with BAR Technologies on a carbon fibre project that is described as an “entirely new class of yacht”.

Pictured above leaving BAR Technologies’ Portsmouth headquarters covered in a vibrant camouflage hull wrap, the new launch is shrouded in mystery, with the yard only confirming that its length is mid-30ft (approximately 10.6 metres).

BAR Technologies was set up to share design knowledge, technical skills and resources built up through Land Rover BAR’s involvement in the America’s Cup.

Its involvement in the project has led to speculation that the yacht could employ foiling technology, however at this stage it is not clear how the twin sterndrive propulsion system could be adapted to work when the hull is foiling above the water.

Antony Sheriff, executive chairman of Princess Yachts, said: “We are thrilled to be working on a brand-new fully carbon fibre yacht that will deliver an exhilarating experience through bold innovation and cutting-edge technology.

“While we cannot reveal more at this point, we are confident this entirely new class of yacht, which is one of the most exciting and revolutionary products Princess has developed, will become this year’s most sought-after product.”

Other projects currently under development at the Plymouth-based yard include the Princess 30M superyacht series, with the latest 30M hull launched last month and due to go on display at the 2018 Miami Boat
