Princess Yachts scoops top awards

Princess Y72 and Princess F45 have both won at the Motor Boat & Yachting (MBY) 2022 Motorboat Awards. The winners were chosen based on how well they performed in rigorous sea trials and how well they meet the requirements of their target market in relation to size, style and price.

The Princess Y72 won the ‘Flybridges over 60ft’ category. The yacht was trialled at the company’s headquarters in Plymouth. According to the judges, “there isn’t a single area of this boat that feels compromised or underdesigned.”

Yet the designers also know when to show restraint and let the spaces speak for themselves on this 21-metre mini superyacht. Judges praised the Y72 for resisting being too flash, nor being laden with features that could be cast off as gimmicks.

The winner of the ‘Flybridges under 60ft’ category was the Princess F45 (pictured below).

On announcing the winner of this category, judges said the F45 “wiped the slate clean” and praised the different accommodation layout and the Volvo Penta drives.

“This may be the smallest boat in the range but it feels every inch a Princess thanks to its beautifully judged interior and some very clever design work from the team at Pininfarina”, the judges said.

They continued, “The use of soft curves around the outside of the boat is particularly successful and turns what would ordinarily be dull slabs of GRP into truly eye-catching design elements. Its styling is more ambitious than the boat it replaces and all the better for it in our opinion. At its heart, the F45 is simply a brilliant cruising boat for a family and the decision to opt for IPS makes all the more sense when you consider this is likely to be a boat that people step up to from smaller weekenders.”

Princess also came highly commended in the Custom Yachts category for its Princess X95.
