Raymarine releases software update for Alpha Performance Display

digital controls on Alpha update from Raymarine

Raymarine has added a free upgrade to its line of award-winning Alpha Performance Displays in the form of an Alpha 3.0 software update. The company says this is packed with valuable tools for interacting with instrument data such as new visualisations and autopilot integration. Plus, the update is easy-to-install.

Alpha’s large and responsive touch-screen interface now has full support for Raymarine Evolution autopilots. Autopilot controls support all major autopilot operating modes, including steer to heading, navigation mode and steer to wind angle. In navigation mode, a 3D presentation shows the boat in relation to the plotted route with visual cross-track error guides and turn point information. Navigation mode also includes dodge controls and resume route controls that allow users to manoeuvre quickly around unexpected obstacles and then return to a plotted course. With steering to wind angle, Alpha gives sailors the choice of steering to true-wind angle, apparent-wind angle or steering to the boat’s Polar for maximum performance.

In addition to Evolution autopilot controls, Alpha provides visualisation of a boat’s navigation, environmental and systems data with customisable digital displays, analogue gauges, histograms and much more. It also supports networked video sources like FLIR thermal and Raymarine visible cameras.

Available in seven and nine inch, high-visibility, tactical touchscreen instruments, Alpha offers fully customisable dashboard and graphic displays. Designed for helm, companionway or mast mounting in portrait or landscape orientation, the Alpha Series is controlled and customised via touchscreen or remotely from a Raymarine Axiom chartplotter and only requires a single cable for data and power.

Earlier this year, Raymarine and FLIR Maritime – who make high-performance marine electronics and thermal cameras for the recreational boating, marine first responder and law enforcement markets – announced the appointment of Michelle Hildyard as vice president of operations.
