RS Marine Group team embarks on charity bike ride in memory of colleague
Four members of the RS Marine Group team will undertake a cycling challenge in memory of their colleague, Maciej Nowaczyk, who passed away earlier this year from cancer.
From 11 to 13 September, the team will cycle from Coningsby in Lincolnshire to the Southampton International Boat Show in Hampshire, covering a distance of 200 miles over three days. The challenge will be intensified by the need to tow an RS Aero dinghy between them throughout the journey.
Nowaczyk (pictured left) was a valued member of RS Marine Group since 2014, playing a key role in the dispatch and delivery of boats worldwide. He was particularly fond of delivering new boats to customers within the UK, which involved travelling to various locations and engaging with the sailing community. The RS team has therefore chosen to make this 200-mile journey as a tribute to his memory.
The RS Aero Cycle Challenge is raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support through a JustGiving page.
Richard Frost, RS Marine Group‘s production director and the organiser of this challenge, says: “Maciej was the kind of man who would get into the office at 4am just to help you reverse the exhibition vans after a 24-hour journey back from the continent. He cared about the business and he cared about the people. He would put in the hours to make others’ lives easier. Cycling 200 miles, towing an RS in his honour is the least we can do.”
The route will cover 200 miles and involve 5,000ft of elevation. The RS Aero dinghy the team will tow measures 4m in length and 1.5m in width. The combined weight of over 60kg and the width of the trailer will limit the team’s ability to use cycle paths, adding further complexity to the journey.
Earlier this summer, RS Marine Group took part in the Portsmouth leg of Running Out of Time’s annual climate relay. A Pulse 63 electric RIB was used in the Solent part of the non-relay from Scotland to Egypt. The UK section covered over 2,400km and ran through Scotland, Wales and England between 6 June and 4 July 2024.
