RYA announces leadership changes for 2026
Nick Scott, previously director of racing, has been appointed RYA director of sport
The Royal Yachting Association has announced a series of leadership changes and structural updates for 2026.
In 2025, two directors left the organisation. Rob Clark, who led the sport development department for four years, took up a new role at the Andrew Simpson Foundation. Mel Hide also departed after more than four years as director of external affairs.
Nick Scott, previously RYA director of racing, has been appointed RYA director of sport. He oversees the newly formed sport department, which combines the former sport development and racing teams.
James Stuart, formerly director of legal, governance & integrity and CEO of RYA Wales, has been appointed RYA director of corporate affairs. He supports the work of the new corporate affairs department, which is responsible for strategic, governance and regulatory matters.

RYA CEO Sara Sutcliffe says: “As we begin a new year, these changes represent an exciting step forward for the RYA.
“They reflect our commitment to evolving as an organisation and ensuring we are well placed to grow participation and continue to support our members and community as we build a vibrant and inclusive future for boating”.
The news comes after RYA launched four British Sailing Talent Academies as part of its ongoing drive to develop the next generation of high-performance sailors and future medal winners.
In 2025, RYA also launched The Female Futures Group, which is dedicated to increasing female participation in British sailing and unlocking new opportunities for women and girls in the sport.
