Sailteck enters sailing market with racing compass

Marine electronics maker Sailteck is launching a new performance sailing instrument for dinghies, catamarans and small keelboats.

It says its new race compass has bold 30mm digits and twin displays, helping readability become crystal clear even from a hiking or trapezing position. The two-line display is designed to ensure sailors can see the countdown, and tactical displays, before the start and both heading and tactics after the start, while the time-of-day clock eliminates the need for a separate timing device. The countdown is simplified by the three-button keypad.

“By offering outstanding ergonomics and ease of use in a small lightweight package, Sailteck aims to bring tactical sailing to all competitive crews,” says Mark Johnson, founder and managing director at France-based Sailteck.

Johnson was co-founder and lead developer at Tacktick which introduced the electronic tactical compass to small boat racing over 20 years ago.

The company says that, as the race compass is built with a one-part toughened transparent front case, it is ‘fully’ waterproof. It adds that the new race compass is class-legal since it does not contain a GPS and is ‘powered for life’ with its integrated sky-facing solar panel.
