SCL Education & Training partner with Rockley Watersports

SCL Education & Training announces a brand-new partnership with Rockley Watersports, offering students aged 16 and over the opportunity to kick-start their career in the outdoor and leisure industry.

Delivered at Rockley’s main training centre in Poole, the unique vocational training programme is a one-year NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Sport, which will develop students’ practical skills in sailing, windsurfing, powerboat and paddle sports alongside SCL’s expert education provision.

Additionally, the course will include theory units, practical activities, NGB qualifications, and opportunities for Royal Yachting Association (RYA) training and work experience.

Rockley began as a family run business more than 40 years ago with the aim of teaching sailing off the beach in Poole Harbour. The centre has grown and developed significantly, and now runs an education programme for students with a passion for watersports and the outdoors.

SCL Partnership Director, Lawrence Blair, who has overseen a series of exciting partnership extensions in recent weeks, including the West Ham United Foundation and the Strachan Football Foundation, says: “This is a landmark announcement for SCL as we introduce our education provision to a new area of the sports industry, and I’m delighted that we will be working closely with Rockley Watersports.

“Like SCL, Rockley began as a family run business and has grown considerably over the years, with a number of key developments increasing its profile as an organisation.  I recently visited its main centre in Poole and I was really impressed with the set-up and the outstanding service that it delivers to students wanting to further their career.”

Rockley Watersports Managing Director, Pip Woods, said: “Rockley, established in 1976, has over 10 years’ experience in delivering unique further education programmes including the BTEC Level 3 Sport (Outdoor Adventure) course.  I’m proud to have seen the education programme grow and develop over the years with many students starting their careers within the leisure outdoor industry or continuing with their education at university.”

Last year more than a quarter of a million learners from over 2,000 education and training organisations chose NCFE as the awarding body, to help them advance their learning and career goals.

Rockley Head of Education, Clare Hicks, added: “I’m delighted to be able to add a level two course to our educational programmes at Rockley. This really does allow for even more students than ever before to come and get involved in what we do and start their journey on to a career in the outdoors.  This is super exciting for us and for the learners.”

Further education certificates and diplomas are growing in popularity as they open new doors into rewarding careers in STEM, health, sport, business, IT, creatives and more.
