Geomac has announced the creation of a brand new, 250-berth marina in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Shakespeare Marina has been named after the famous playwright and poet William Shakespeare, who was born in the medieval market town, and earthworks will soon begin to prepare for its launch in the late autumn.

Situated on the River Avon and administered by the Avon Navigation Trust, the marina will offer boating enthusiasts the opportunity to pass through the heart of England, via a mixture of canals and rivers, as part of the Avon Ring. This ring provides passage through Evesham, Tewkesbury, Worcester and Birmingham, as well as access to the national network.

Offering a range of facilities including a shower block with laundry, and fuel and service pedestals with water and electricity, Shakespeare Marina is a brief 15-minute walk from the town centre.

Neil Warren of Geomac says: “We are proud to present Shakespeare Marina and announce its website www.shakespearemarina.com is open for enquiries and bookings.

“Shakespeare Marina will offer high-quality mooring facilities at the top end of the river on a flood safe site and we know from talking to boat users that there is a demand for this type of facility in the Stratford area,” says Clive Matthews, chief executive of the Avon Navigation Trust.

“I have seen other marinas constructed by Land & Water Services and they are of a very high quality. The marinas are very self-contained and the company remains stalwart in its respect for the ecology of our inland waterways.”

Geomac is part of the wider Land & Water Group, a company which says it is passionate about caring for the UK’s coastline and network of waterways, rivers, streams and wetlands. Shakespeare Marina will be built by Land & Water Services and will have a natural water body design complemented by floating jetties.

I would be interested to know the rate per foot you will charge? I currently have a 30ft Sea Otter narrowboat which I keep on the Grand Union at the Mid Warwickshire Yacht Club at Hatton. I live in Stratford upon Avon and may well consider moving my boat to your marina when it is completed.
