Suntex acquires Key West marina

Suntex Marina Investors has announced the acquisition of Garrison Bight Marina located on Key West in the Florida Keys.

The marina is located on the north side of the island close to hotels, shops and restaurants, and has indoor and outdoor storage (approximately 20 wet slips and 213 dry slips), a fuel dock, and a ship store. Cited as the only full-service marina on the island of Key West with dry storage, Garrison Bight offers direct access to the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico.

“This purchase provides Suntex with an excellent opportunity to expand upon our holdings in the Florida Keys and our footprint in the south Florida market,” says David Filler, investments partner at Suntex Marinas. “With significant investment in upgrades, we will raise it to match the high standards we have for our entire industry-leading portfolio of premier properties.”

This latest acquisition follows Suntex’s other recent purchases of marinas and its partnership with marina management company Westrec Marinas, which was announced earlier this month.

The company says Key West is one of the premier yachting locations in the United States, with the Keys attracting thousands of commercial, recreational and pleasure boaters each year to fish, dive, snorkel and enjoy activities on the water. The surrounding waters have been designated the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, protecting the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States.

“The purchase of Garrison Bight allows us to invest in one of the most desirable locations in the Keys,” adds Sam Chavers, Suntex Marinas’ senior vice president of operations. “Our plans include a complete remodel of the property to make it one of the best in the entire Florida Keys.”

The Suntex portfolio includes marinas located in California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee and Virginia.
