SuperYacht References offers verified references for crew
SuperYacht References, an ‘innovative new platform set to revolutionise the yacht crew recruitment process’, says it’s offering a solution to the challenges of undertaking background checks and verifying crew references.
The platform is free for crew to use. Candidates upload their details (reference contacts, professional qualifications, and identification) and then the SuperYacht References team verify their claims. This means that when a captain or agent is looking at crew profiles, they can be safe in the knowledge that each individual has undergone a thorough background check and is ready to be employed.
This process offers speed and security for the employer. Then, with each new role, crew can update their profiles and keep their documentation in one, accessible online platform.
SuperYacht References was introduced at the Monaco Yacht Show. “The Monaco show was an ideal time to showcase the platform,” says founder, Captain Mark McDowell. “Crew were finishing up the Med season and looking for new opportunities for the Caribbean season. They saw how signing up to SuperYacht References and getting their profiles sorted made the job search much smoother and gave them an edge over other candidates.
“We’ll keep improving the experience for everyone that uses it and look forward to welcoming more and more users to SuperYacht References as we head into the winter season.”
McDowell is keen to point out that even if someone isn’t looking for a job this season, they can still take advantage of the SuperYacht References platform. In addition to references, security, and background checks, the team also offers crew professional development and mentoring services for their entire career.
“The reference process goes hand in hand with coaching services. By giving our candidates honest feedback, strategies to further their career progression and support when they need it, they can learn from their mistakes and build on their strengths,” says McDowell. The website also offers industry insights and resource articles for crew that help navigate all aspects of crew life.
As reported earlier this month in MIN, former yacht crew member Sarah Kroker has launched Mynd, a new service offering mental health support and resources to yacht crew.
The demands of providing seven-star service and 24/7 dedication to an elite clientele, coupled with the isolation of living and working in close proximity while being away from home and missing friends and family, can create a unique set of pressures for yacht crew, she said.
