Vivic Yachts of Taiwan and Acel Power of Canada have entered a joint development agreement for electric yachts. The collaboration focuses on creating the electric catamaran yacht series including EV1, EV2, and EV58 models.

The electric yachts will combine Acel’s electric propulsion technology with Vivic’s boatyard expertise.

Vivic will be responsible for yacht design and construction technology, while Acel will undertake the research, development, production, and integration of electric propulsion systems.

Both parties will collaborate on advancing electric propulsion technologies and share related intellectual property rights.

Through the agreement, Vivic will handle the production, construction, sales, and after-sales services in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Acel will produce the electric propulsion systems and manage sales and after-sales services outside mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

Vivic first hit the leisure boat market in 2022 launching its 27ft VVT model equipped with the company’s own electric propulsion design.

This new partnership aims to enhance product competitiveness in the sustainable marine solutions market. The first yacht delivery is scheduled for July 2025.

Founded in 2021, Acel develops and manufactures high-powered electric propulsion systems fully integrated with proprietary battery and monitoring/management software. Acel currently offers 50hp and 75hp (35 and 55kW) electric outboard motors, and is working on a full range from 1 to 650 horsepower (.75 – 475kW).

According to the boatbuilder, the partnership represents a significant advancement in the Vivec’s strategic positioning within the renewable electric yacht market. The collaboration aims to meet the global demand for sustainable and efficient marine solutions by enhancing product competitiveness.

Vivic president and CEO Tse-Ling Wang says: “We are optimistic that this partnership with Acel Power will enhance our competitiveness in the global market and provide fresh momentum for future growth. Both parties in the joint development are committed to advancing project implementation in line with the cooperation agreement. We look forward to sharing our progress along with any performance-related contributions in future financial reports.”
