Toronto’s National Yacht Club launches $5m marina renovation

French company Poralu Marine, which specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of aluminium marinas, has been chosen to renovate the National Yacht Club in Canada – one of the country’s oldest marinas.

Costing almost $5 million, moorings for 214 boats will be created as part of this project and delivery is scheduled for May 2023.

Located in downtown Toronto, the National Yacht Club is a highly active community of amateur sailors. Its sailing club is renowned for its educational programmes and its races and cruises, and also organises events.

The National Yacht Club‘s board of directors says: “The advisory services and true partnership the entire team at Poralu demonstrated throughout this past year has provided the NYC membership, our dock committee, management, executive and board of directors confidence in this decision. We look forward to showcasing what we build together over the next few months. We are all very excited. Thank you to all involved.

Designed at Poralu Marine’s Canadian production site, the new facilities at the National Yacht Club in Canada will replace the existing equipment, which has now become outdated. The club says it selected Poralu Marine to provide strong, sustainable technical solutions to increase equipment lifespan and optimise the use of space while remaining in keeping with the high-end sporting spirit that the club embodies. The marina’s moorings will be designed to suit modern boats, including catamarans and motor vessels.

In July, MIN reported that Poralu Marine was awarded its second project for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, winning the contract for the supply and set-up of floating infrastructure for the small sailboat racing competitions in Marseilles.

“The breadth of experience and professionalism exhibited by the members of the National Yacht Club during the entire process of design, review, equipment evaluation and selection was truly exemplary,” says Stephen Fischer, sales development of the Great Lakes – Ontario region at Poralu Marine Canada.

“We are thrilled to have been entrusted with this generational upgrade to NYC’s facilities and offerings and proud to see two storied enterprises working together.”

The docks will be entirely replaced with aluminium docks that offer a modular layout.
