Typhoon International headlines sponsorship of Scorpion Nationals 2021

Typhoon International, a manufacturer of watersports clothing and accessories, is to sponsor the 2021 Scorpion National Championships in Penzance in association with Craftinsure and FFX. The Nationals will take place from 15-20 August, with over 160 competitors taking part.

The Scorpion is a light planing two-person hiking dinghy which was designed in 1959. It has grown into a popular class, with up to 160 boats competing in past championships. Over the last couple of years, the class has been enjoying a resurgence in numbers.

“Typhoon International’s sailing apparel is ideally suited to competitive Scorpion sailors, and we are pleased that our support will help the Class Association run a fantastic event,” says Andrew Richards of Typhoon International. “We wish the fleet plenty of thrilling racing and we are proud to be supporting the Scorpion Class.”

With a spinnaker, the boat can be very fast in expert hands, but it is also easy to sail for novices.

Like many classes, the Scorpion’s construction has moved from wood to plastic, although the race results for the classic older boats show that they are still strongly competitive.
