U-Boat Worx launches flagship submersible that can hold 9 people

Dutch submersible manufacturer U-Boat Worx has added a new nine-person model to its range of deep-sea submersibles.

The new Nexus subs are depth-rated to 200 metres, can operate for up to 18 hours and dive up to ten times a day, thanks to lithium-ion batteries.

U-Boat Worx sells submersibles to private operators, resorts, and cruise lines. Its latest Nexus series features two designs, both with an ultra-large elliptical acrylic pressure hull. Seating up to eight passengers and one pilot, Nexus provides 25 per cent more interior space than competing models, according to the company.

The sub also boasts a revolving seating arrangement to help passengers enjoy good views, regardless of the direction the submarine is travelling. Powered by ten thrusters and controlled by a joystick, Nexus subs are designed to manoeuvre in any direction.

The company says that experience and knowledge gained from the development of the Cruise Subs have evolved the new features in the Nexus series, including an extra-large entrance hatch to help make entering and exiting the vessel easier.

The Nexus is said to be optimised for ship-based launch and recovery, and can also be deployed from land and transported to dive sites.

In addition to the nine-person Nexus, a smaller and lighter seven-person version is available.
