UK’s only marine electrician training bootcamp opens for 2026 registration
Registrations are now open for the January 2026 marine electrician training bootcamp as the current cohort nears completion.
The UK-based Marine Electrician Skills Bootcamp is government-funded and has been developed with industry to address skills shortages in marine electrical work. The programme lasts ten to 12 weeks and is delivered in a hybrid format, with virtual sessions plus face-to-face teaching in Hampshire.
The bootcamp is delivered by British Maritime Training & Assessment (BMTA) and Fareport Training and provides electricians and engineers with specialised marine electrician training and electrical knowledge to support careers across the maritime sector.
Owen Davies, partner at BMTA, says: “The dedication shown by everyone on the current course is truly impressive. With the skills they’ve learned, these participants are well-positioned to advance their careers and make a significant impact in the maritime sector. It’s been great to see the progress of both newcomers to the sector and those already working in the industry.”
Employers enrolling staff contribute towards course fees, while the course remains free for self‑employed participants. The programme is intended for those already in maritime roles seeking progression and for domestic electricians [in the UK] wishing to apply their skills in a marine context.
Davies adds: “The Marine Electrician Skills Bootcamps are a fantastic opportunity for both those already working in the maritime sector who want to progress and for people working as domestic electricians to diversify, build skills and explore the many opportunities on offer in the marine and maritime industry.
“We’ve seen maritime businesses sending their staff on the course as a strategic tool to upskill their teams, future-proof their operations, and ensure they’re equipped for the evolving demands of the industry, as well as individuals looking to enhance their skills and find new work opportunities.”
BMTA provides marine electrical, electronics and engineering training and assessment approved by the British Marine Electrical and Electronics Association. Based in Poole, the organisation delivers courses for both leisure and commercial marine sectors, including bespoke corporate and self‑guided learning options.
Skills Bootcamps are funded by the Department for Education and developed with employers to meet skills gaps. They are free for independent learners and self‑employed participants. SMEs contribute 10 per cent (£400+VAT) and large employers with over 250 staff contribute 30 per cent (£1,200+VAT) towards course delivery.
