Wave International’s MiniBOSS oily water separator has new features

A new version of the Wave MiniBOSS IMO separator is now available. The Series II Wave MiniBOSS is said to offer a faster flow rate, providing 0.5m³/hr across all models. All models of the separator are available for DC or AC power.

The Series II Wave MiniBOSS is an Oily Water Separator (OWS) which ensures that vessels do not discharge any oil or other pollutants, such as microplastics, overboard thanks to its use of a pre-filter and two Wavestream oil removal filters.

Approved by the IMO, ABS and US Coast Guard, it is MEPC 107 (49) certified for use on all vessels from 400 Gross Tons.

OWSs are mandatory for larger vessels, but the compact design of the MiniBOSS system means that many smaller leisure craft, superyachts, workboats, fishing vessels, military and other commercial craft are choosing to fit this system to ensure that they do not create any pollution from their bilges whilst at sea, says Wave International.

Silversea Silver Origin cruise ship which regularly visits the highly protected waters around the Galapagos, windfarm vessels in the North Sea, and Navy ships operating in the Indian Ocean are currently using the system.

The Wave MiniBOSS is a bulkhead mounted system. Its filter technology removes all trace of pollutants down to 15 ppm which is the IMO worldwide standard. Additionally, the system can be supplied to clean bilge water to 5 ppm if a vessel is operating in a sensitive or Particularly Protected Sea Area (PPSA) as certified by the IMO.

Once fitted, the Wave MiniBOSS is easy to operate. The indicator panel enables users to simply set the required outflow quality. The oil water monitor retains an 18-month log of bilge pumping operations. Replacement cartridges are obtainable worldwide through Wave International’s network of distributors or direct from Wave.
