Wave MiniBOSS bilge water system fitted on luxury cruise ship in Galapagos

Wave International’s MiniBoss bilge water system has been fitted on the luxury cruise ship, Silver Origin, the latest addition to the Silversea Cruises fleet providing cruises in the Galapagos area.

Silver Origin was designed and built to exceptionally high environmentally friendly credentials to create the least impact on the Galapagos Archipelago, an area designated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as a Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA).

The Wave MiniBOSS system, which uses a pre filter and two Wavestream filters, was fitted to ensure the vessel doesn’t discharge any dirty water, traces of oil or pollutants overboard, complying with MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution at Sea) regulations. Usually, no more than 15 ppm (parts per million) of oil water discharge is allowed, but in the protected waters of the Galapagos this is reduced to 5 ppm.

Paul Gullett, managing director of Wave International, says: “We’re delighted that the Wave MiniBOSS system was specified for this build, and all its benefits in terms of its compact size, weight and reliability were recognised. Due to the extremely sensitive environment in which Silver Origin will be operating, it is essential that there is always complete confidence that this ship will meet and even exceed the stringent discharge regulations at all times.”

Approved by the IMO, Bureau Veritas and US Coast Guard, the MiniBOSS is MEPC 107 (49) certified for use on vessels from 400 Gross Tons.

The Wave MiniBOSS is designed to be mounted on a bulkhead enabling easy access and taking up no deck space, and comes in three models: 24v DC with a maximum flow rate of 0.25 m³/hr; and a 110v and a 240v AC with flow rates of 0.35 m³/hr.

The filter technology within the Wave MiniBOSS removes all trace of pollutants which remain trapped within the filter cartridge. A system’s control panel indicates when the filters require replacing, with replacement Wavestream filters being available worldwide through a network of distributors.

The Wave MiniBOSS system is also fitted to a wide range of craft including superyachts, military and navy vessels, commercial ships, and workboats.
