Webasto cooling system specified for flagship Lagoon Eighty 2
The Lagoon Eighty 2 is an 82ft sailing catamaran
Webasto will supply its BlueCool VX-Series chiller system for the Lagoon Eighty 2, the new flagship catamaran in Groupe Beneteau’s Lagoon range.
The model integrates a customised marine air conditioning configuration using R32 refrigerant.
The Lagoon Eighty 2 builds on an existing working relationship between Webasto and Groupe Beneteau. BlueCool S-Series and V-Series systems have previously been installed across several Lagoon and Trawler models. Groupe Beneteau has since extended the use of Webasto systems from mid-range yachts to higher-end models.
For the Lagoon Eighty 2, Webasto has delivered a system configured specifically for the yacht’s cooling load. Two VX-Series chiller units are installed on a dedicated mounting frame and supplied as a plug-and-play package. Webasto’s engineering team worked with Groupe Beneteau on system layout, piping configuration, installation support and performance optimisation. Connectivity using the Scheiber protocol is integrated into the Webasto ECU, allowing the chiller system to interface with the vessel’s control systems.

The BlueCool VX-Series is a variable-speed marine chiller platform designed to manage changing cooling loads with reduced energy consumption. The system’s modular architecture allows up to six units to be combined, with individual capacities of 36, 48, 60, 72 and 120 kBTU/h to match a range of vessel sizes, from medium-sized yachts to larger platforms. The units are equipped with titanium condenser coils designed for long-term operation.
The system includes three ECO operating modes, allowing adjustment of the output to balance power consumption and onboard comfort. Control is provided through the BlueCool MyTouch display, which supports multiple languages and monitors both seawater and chilled water circuits. All connected chiller units are managed centrally via the VX-System Bus. Optional accessories include pump control boxes designed to support integration with onboard systems.
“The decision to use Webasto to supply the air conditioning units for our catamarans was obvious, given the teams’ local proximity and availability, their expertise in air conditioning technology and their comprehensive service offering,” says Quentin Bérault, product marketing manager, Lagoon.
“The proven quality of the company’s products is also a major plus when it comes to ensuring our end customers’ satisfaction – whether for a boat owner or a charter company. For the latter in particular, the air conditioning system is heavily used throughout the season.”

Teddy Dufour, team lead sales marine and location manager at Webasto France, says: “This project is the result of a long-standing partnership between Beneteau and Webasto. From the early Trawler tests to today’s Lagoon Eighty 2, we’ve proven our value in product reliability, global service quality, and tailored engineering.
