Webasto to cut 300 jobs as part of restructuring effort

Webasto HQ

German component manufacturer and automotive supplier Webasto will reduce around 300 positions in Germany as part of a wider organisational restructuring aimed at adapting to challenging market conditions.

The firm says these reductions will mainly affect management roles within administrative departments at the company’s Stockdorf and Gilching sites.

The agreement was reached through discussions between management and employee representatives, and staff at the affected locations have been informed, according to Webasto. The process is expected to conclude by the end of the year.

“The shifts in the automotive market demand a leaner, more cost-efficient organisation with reduced complexity and faster decision-making processes. This is the only way we can remain competitive,” said Joerg Buchheim, CEO of Webasto SE.

The company says it is simplifying its organisational structure in response to “the ongoing challenging market environment” in the automotive sector.

The firm manufactures products for the marine industry including air and water heaters and cooling systems, and spare parts and service kits.

Buchheim was appointed in January 2025 as chief restructuring officer, as it kicked off a far-reaching overhaul. Webasto reached a stabilisation agreement with bank lenders and holders in December 2024.

“The personnel changes are a necessary part of our organisational realignment,” Buchheim says. “Although this step is not easy for us, it is essential given the current market developments. It is a decisive move to position Webasto for the future. We will implement these measures thoughtfully and in line with our corporate culture.”

Webasto and the company-wide works council have agreed on a reconciliation of interests and a social plan. The plan includes an option for affected employees to transfer into a transition company, which will provide up to 12 months of support for “professional reorientation.”
