ICOMIA podcast: Metstrade is expanding into a global marine industry week, says Patricia Becker
Patricia Becker, exhibition manager for Metstrade, says that as the show continues to grow in scale and influence, the 2025 iteration is set to welcome over 1,600 exhibitors, surpassing previous years and reflecting the industry’s strong momentum.
As the show continues to evolve from a trade exhibition into a full-scale, globally recognised platform for marine leisure innovation, connection, and growth, it’s being positioned as part of an industry week. This means it has moved beyond its traditional three-day format and is now part of a broader international leisure marine industry week. This expanded framework includes events such as the Superyacht Forum and the Yacht Racing Forum. The idea is to position Metstrade as the anchor for a full week of strategic discussions, innovation showcases and cross-sector collaboration.
One of the major updates is the introduction of a dedicated refit cluster. For the first time, major shipyards such as Lürssen, Amels, Damen, and Pendennis will be exhibiting, highlighting the increasing importance of the refit sector within the wider marine industry. The superyacht segment also sees significant investment, with the debut of a dedicated superyacht stage, an expanded exhibition hall, and the new Harbour 8 restaurant designed to encourage networking.
Innovation and startup activity remain a central focus for the show. In addition to the existing Yachting Ventures startup zone, a new startup hub will be introduced within the superyacht area, spotlighting cutting-edge technology and entrepreneurial solutions tailored to the sector’s evolving needs.
Another highlight is the introduction of the Women in Nautica programme, a full-day event promoting diversity and inclusion in the marine industry. Sustainability efforts also take a step forward with the launch of the METS Train — a branded Eurostar service between London and Amsterdam, offering a lower-impact travel option for exhibitors and attendees while doubling as a unique networking opportunity.
The BBI Boat Builder Awards will return to the RAI venue in a new format focused on improving networking opportunities and accessibility.
