Wight Vodka Best Sailor’s Bar – with a little ‘pudding drink’ for us Brits…
Latitude Kinsale and Seahorse Magazine’s have chosen the IYAC in Newport RI as their featured bar this year:
We celebrate our tenth annual competition to find the Best Sailor’s Bar on earth.
The winner will be decided by
1. Best story about the bar
2. Best drink recipe from the bar
3. Voting
Winner announced on New Year’s Eve.
Avoided by tourists, always full of your favourite sailors but never too busy, there’s always room to saddle up at the bar and order a beer. The endless memorabilia always sparks great conversation and there’s time to get schooled in billiards by the local ringer.
They do an amazing amount of fundraising in the Newport area and have a very loyal group of folks that come in from all over the world.
International crowd, pool table, great music, strong bartenders, always fun.
Best sailing bar in the best sailing town in the world, what’s more to say?
And since the English like naming a lot of things “pudding” why not a pudding drink?
Christmas pudding vodka
300g / 10.5 oz mixed dried fruit (sultanas, currants, raisins)
75g/3oz caster sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
2 tsp ground mixed spice
6 cloves
½ whole nutmeg, finely grated
1 orange, zest only, finely grated
1 unwaxed lemon, zest only, finely grated
750ml/1 pint 5fl oz bottle Wight Vodka Mix the dried fruit with the sugar, cinnamon sticks, mixed spice, cloves, grated nutmeg and citrus zest in a bowl.
1. Mix the dried fruit with the sugar, cinnamon sticks, mixed spice, cloves, grated nutmeg and citrus zest in a large bowl.
2. Pour over the vodka, and cover tightly with cling film.
3. Place in the fridge and leave for 3 days, stirring once each day.
4. Line a sieve with a double layer of fine muslin and place over a large, clean jug.
5. Pour the dried fruit and vodka mixture into the sieve and allow to drip through into the jug.
6. Pour into a sterilized bottle.
