Yacht Club de Monaco installs Seadamp smart mooring system

The Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) has installed a hydraulic mooring damper system in part of its marina to help protect vessels, particularly during wintering periods.

YCM has equipped part of its marina with the Seadamp solution, whereby hydraulic devices effectively absorb the energy generated by swell and water movement. The marina claims this reduces dynamic peak loads and fatigue stress on mooring lines by up to 90 per cent.

According to YCM, in comparable Mediterranean marinas, Seadamp installations have also recorded up to 2x greater stability at berth, around 50 per cent less pontoon movement and a 45 per cent reduction in measured accelerations, significantly improving comfort on board during rougher sea states.

Developed by Seares, an Italian company that took part in the Monaco Smart Marina programme, this technology combines mechanical performance with digital innovation. When equipped with sensors, Seadamp units continuously measure the loads on each mooring line and transmit real-time data to a dedicated dashboard.

Smart marina technology is on the rise with key stakeholders rolling out new systems devised to help efficiency, berth fulfillment and safety, among other factors. In 2025, D-Marin continued its rollout of smart pedestals in its marinas, and 24/7 berth monitoring. In the UK, MDL Marinas launched a series of infrastructure upgrades.

This enables 24/7 monitoring of the berths, automatic alerts when pre-set thresholds are exceeded, and the creation of historical databases that support more sustainable, predictive management of port infrastructure. The system is designed to be energy independent, as it converts wave motion into electrical energy to power the onboard electronics.

Giorgio Cucè, CEO of Seares, says: “As Seares, working alongside the Yacht Club de Monaco is a strong confirmation of the relevance of our Seadamp technology. This collaboration allows us to deploy and further refine data-driven mooring solutions in one of the most demanding and visionary marinas in the world, enhancing safety, comfort and environmental performance for today’s and tomorrow’s yachting.”

Headquartered in Pisa, Italy, Seares develops sustainable mooring solutions.
