Yamaha welcomes M.E.S. Racing to its on-water race team

Yamaha Marine UK has announced that M.E.S. Racing is now a Yamaha-supported racing team sponsored by Deeside-based Yamaha dealer M.E.S. Powersports.

This news follows two important wins by the team on Yamaha WaveRunners at the recent British Championships, with Michael Leeming taking first in the J3 non-supercharged discipline on a Yamaha VX HO and Callum Davidson-Guild winning the J2 stock supercharged on a Yamaha GP1800R SVHO.

“When starting the team 18 months ago, I looked at different manufacturers, but after researching and testing, it soon became clear that Yamaha was clearly the better brand,” says Dale Williams, team owner and manager.

“The Yamaha FX SVHO is the first port of call when racing offshore in rough conditions, and it’s showed its dominance this year taking the most amount of race wins across the series. The GP1800R SVHO and VX HO are also firm team favourites. The performance of Yamaha’s WaveRunners is the biggest contributing factor to the success of the team.

“I could not be happier to be onboard with Yamaha Racing. To be supported by Yamaha is a dream come true.”

Last year Williams set a new British National Record on a Yamaha GP1800R SVHO in the Aquabike OCJ 300 J1 class. He averaged 84.33mph over one kilometre during the attempt on Coniston Water. This record currently remains unbeaten.

M.E.S. Racing is a six-strong team, comprising Williams (29), and team riders Martin Campbell (44), Michael Leeming (24), Callum Davidson-Guild (20), Joe Leeming (27) and Lauren Bird (22).

As a Yamaha dealer with extensive experience of Yamaha WaveRunners, M.E.S. Powersports will be supporting M.E.S. Racing with new WaveRunners, parts, and accessories, as well as providing specialist servicing to maintain the team’s WaveRunners in class-leading condition.

“After a successful season with M.E.S. Racing on Yamaha WaveRunners and as M.E.S. Racing’s main sponsor, we feel honoured to be chosen by Yamaha to be its supported team,” say Mark Shovelton, Belinda and Kayleigh Palfreman at family owned at M.E.S. Powersports Ltd.  “We are looking forward to another successful season in 2024.”

Yamaha WaveRunners are structured into three distinct segments reflecting user motivations, which Yamaha says makes it easy to navigate the range. In August (2023), Yamaha Motor UK released its 2024 WaveRunner range, with updates to nine of the 11 models in its range.

Each product is uniquely designed for different riding styles and preferences, embodying the reliability and technical innovation expected from Yamaha:

Sport

Focused on high-end performance, the Sport range is designed for race-inspired riders looking for an acceleration induced adrenaline rush. It includes the popular SuperJet model, which combines power, agility, and exhilarating performance, and the championship winning GP1800R SVHO.

Cruising

The Cruising range is Yamaha largest range with a broad selection of models which optimise the user experience and usability for the exploration and adventure on the water, from the all-round high-performance FX Cruiser SVHO to the adrenaline pumping supercharged FX SVHO.

Recreation

Offering an exciting and high energy experience, the Recreation segment comprises of the JetBlaster. With its TR-1® High Output engine and excellent power-to-weight performance, it’s the perfect partner for some serious fun on the water.
