YYachts to deliver nine yachts this summer
German shipyard YYachts will deliver nine yachts by the middle of 2024, including seven of its Y7 model and two of the Y8.
The firm, which says it has been a “very busy few weeks” for its staff, confirms two units of the Y7 were already completed in 2023, but the owners kept them with the shipyard for several months until they wanted to start using them.
Tijl Hetterschijt, managing director of YYachts, is pleased with the activity. “It’s wonderful to see so many customers starting the coming season with their new yachts and our YYachts fleet in the Mediterranean continuing to grow,” he says.
The yard says the Y7 combines comfortable sailing with competitive sailing performance, including on the regatta course. This was achieved by consistently reducing the yacht’s weight during the design phase, under the guidance of YYachts founder Michael Schmidt and naval architect Bill Tripp.
Schmidt and Tripp also focused on reducing vulnerable components when designing the Y7. The pair say “keep it simple” is the philosophy behind the Y7, so that downtimes are reduced to a minimum and maximum safety is generated on board.
On the Y7, all halyards, sheets, and tensioners run concealed to the steering columns. Therefore, the owner or helmsperson can always operate the Y7 alone. With a weight of around 29 tons and a sail area of almost 300 square meters on the wind, the Y7 has sufficient propulsion even in light winds.
The furling system and anchor are integrated, while the dinghy, which is up to 3.45 metres long, disappears into the transverse garage at the stern, increasing the usable interior space.
