11 Amazon lifejackets recalled, owners urged to stop using products ‘immediately’

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a product recall for 11 models of lifejackets, including a children’s floating vest, that were being sold via Amazon.

Safety products are being recalled from the following brands: Nilipei, Floattop, Lixong, Rosoamy, Grelant, Ajing, Zening, Stecto, Omouboi, Wellpath and Rrtizan.

OPSS says that the products presented ‘a serious risk of drowning’, and many not perform in the water as expected. The products have been recalled from end users, and the listings have now been removed by Amazon.

OPSS also recommends owners stop using these products immediately and contact the distributor they purchased the product from.

The products have been recalled because they were not supplied with the required compliance documentation or markings to demonstrate that they have been adequately conformity assessed.

Mandatory third-party conformity assessment is required by the relevant regulations for those products, which protect against more serious risks.

The absence of independent assessment for these products may increase the risk to the consumer that the product may not perform as expected when relied upon to protect them in the water. The products do not meet the requirements of the PPE Regulation 2016/425.

The recalled Wellpath Floating Vest for Kids 5-40kg is now displaying as out of stock on Amazon.

It’s extremely important that PPE such as lifejackets are functioning correctly and are regularly checked. Last year, a staggering 50 per cent of lifejackets examined during a lifejacket clinic by Fowey RNLI were faulty or condemned.
