Dutch yacht supplier opens new warehouse at Damen Yachting

Dutch yacht supplier Alewijnse has opened a new warehouse at Damen Yachting’s Vlissingen yard in southwestern Netherlands.

The decision to enlarge the warehouse was driven by the practical need for additional space, and the upgraded facility is twice as large as its predecessor. Alewijnse says this will allow it to increase its efficiency in providing the electrical integration services that it delivers to Dutch boatbuilder Damen Yachting.

“Our previous location became too small for our growing operations,” says Tom Milder, chief operating officer at Alewijnse. “The new warehouse is a straightforward response to the need for more space, resulting in increased professionalism, enhanced safety and better logistical accessibility.”

Alewijnse supplies bridge equipment, electronics, engineering and entertainment systems services to superyachts. It also installs systems for propulsion, power management, navigation and communications.

The firm says the layout of the new warehouse has been optimised to organise its electrical and installation equipment better, thereby delivering a clearer arrangement of work packages and project stocks.

Alewijnse’s new facility at Damen is designed to deliver electrical services to up to five superyacht projects simultaneously, with around seventy Alewijnse technicians on-site, facilitated by the support of three dedicated full-time warehouse professionals.

Above the warehouse floor, a designated space with approximately 25 workstations has been installed for the exclusive use of commissioners, engineers, and supervisors.

Alewijnse currently has ten warehouses at various locations, including those at Alewijnse sites and third-party shipyards. These are not only in the Netherlands, but also currently in France, Romania and Vietnam.

“The warehouses are structured to provide rapid and flexible service to our customers,” says Freek Bosman, team lead facility and logistics, Netherlands, at Alewijnse. “We maintain close communication and utilize each other’s inventory when necessary. This approach enables us to offer the best service to all our clients in the yacht, marine, and dredging and offshore sectors.”
