Amico Marine brings 13 OEMs into new technical network

Genoa-based Amico Marine is formalising its relationships with equipment manufacturers working on its refit projects, with 13 OEMs joining a new technical network designed to improve coordination between the shipyard and OEM teams.

The focus is practical: earlier information about projects, better planning of technicians and spare parts, and more work prepared by the shipyard itself. For owners and captains, Amico says the aim is to have one point of coordination when several manufacturers are involved in a maintenance or refit project.

The network currently includes Akerboom, Alukwa, CGT, De Keizer, Jastram, Magnus Marine, RTN Reintjes, Rubber Design, Telemar, VBH, Voith Italy, Xeamos and Xquip.

The companies cover a range of technical areas, including marine engineering, steering systems, gearboxes, anti-vibration technology, navigational safety, emissions reduction and deck equipment.

More planning before technicians arrive

The idea is that the network will work through regular coordination meetings and earlier visibility of upcoming projects. That should give OEMs more time to organise technicians, spare parts and service schedules, while allowing the shipyard to plan its own resources around the work.

The arrangement also gives Amico Marine’s in-house technical departments a more active role. Its teams can prepare work scopes and the conditions needed for OEM interventions, as well as supporting some maintenance activities.

That means manufacturers can use their own specialists where their specific expertise is needed, rather than having them handle every part of the preparation and coordination process.

The approach follows the wider integration strategy behind Amico Marine, which was launched in May when Amico & Co brought its refit yards, marina infrastructure and technical services together under the Amico Marine identity.

At that launch, Alberto Amico, founder and partner of Amico & Co, described the group as “a network of companies providing full technical and operational support to owners, crews, and managers at every stage of a superyacht’s life.”

The technical network extends that approach beyond Amico’s own businesses, creating a formal framework for working with equipment manufacturers. More information is available on the company’s website.

Training becomes part of the relationship

Several network members have also committed to providing dedicated training for Amico Marine personnel and yacht crews.

The training is intended to support manufacturer-approved maintenance practices and build technical knowledge that remains available throughout a yacht’s lifecycle.

Amico says closer planning should also reduce unnecessary travel for OEM technicians, allow maintenance activities to be consolidated and make better use of technical resources.

The company says the network is based on “trust, shared objectives and long-term collaboration”, rather than OEMs and the shipyard operating separately on individual jobs.
