Bavaria adds electric drives to C-Line models
Bavaria Yachts will offer electric and hybrid propulsion options on its C38e, C42e and C46e sailing yachts from Q3 2025, using systems supplied by EPTechnologies.
The German shipyard says the new electric and hybrid yachts retain the core performance and comfort features of Bavaria’s C-Line models, while adding an alternative drive system with a reduced environmental footprint. Propulsion is delivered via a saildrive connected to a 25kW electric motor on the C38e and C42e, and a 37kW motor on the C46e. The drive system is integrated with EPTechnologies’ Multibox, which manages battery charging and overall system operation.
Standard battery capacity on the C38e and C42e is 18.2 kWh, with the option to expand using additional battery packs, offering a range up to 50 nautical miles on electric power alone. The C46e includes two battery packs as standard. For extended range, an optional generator can be added, converting the system into a hybrid solution. This setup can reportedly provide up to 576 nautical miles of range on the C38e at a cruising speed of 5.5 knots.
“We have been searching for an alternative drive solution perfectly aligned with our DNA at Bavaria Yachts: sustainable, high-quality, modular, and effortless for sailors to use,” says Norbert Leifeld, COO at Bavaria Yachts. “With EPTechnologies, we’ve found just the partner we need to propel us – and our owners – into the future. Sailing has always been a sustainable pursuit. Now, we’re making it even more so.”
EPTechnologies — which recently expanded into the United States — supplies electric and hybrid systems for yachts and currently has 35 systems in operation on the water as of June 2025. The company will be present at the Electric and Hybrid Marine Show in Amsterdam from 24-26 June, where its stand (6020) will feature recent product developments.
