BOSS launches responsible sailing capsule

BOSS continues its journey towards a more sustainable approach to fashion with the launch of an exclusive Sailing Capsule crafted from responsible materials.

The eight pieces in the capsule collection, presented in the colours of the HUGO BOSS yacht, are made from recycled polyester and organic cotton. Their reduced use of resources mirrors the design ethos of the new boat, which skipper Alex Thomson will sail in the 2020 Vendée Globe.

The designs combine elevated fabrics with functional details. In a pared back palette of black, white and neon pink, they are said to be as equally suited to a day on the water as to time relaxing at home.

The water-resistant raincoat, hoodie, cap and backpack in the capsule are all made from double-faced recycled polyester woven using Social Plastic® yarn from Plastic Bank®. This initiative aims to drive social change by helping stop plastic reaching the ocean, while improving the lives of collector communities.

The BOSS logo T-shirt, polo, knitted beanie and cosy sweater that complete the collection are crafted from cotton sourced from COTTONFORLIFE, which aims to develop and sustain farming of high-quality organic cotton and promote a fully transparent, eco-friendly and socially responsible cotton value chain.

The development of the capsule was inspired by the approach taken by Alex Thomson Racing in the design and build of the new HUGO BOSS yacht. The boat has been created with sustainability in mind: the hull has not been painted but instead has a raw carbon finish, the primary power source is sunlight, and the motor onboard is electric.

“For BOSS, this Capsule represents another stage in their journey towards a more sustainable approach to fashion. And I could not be prouder to be a part of that journey,” says Alex Thomson.
