Canadian firm BRP — maker of Sea-Doo watercraft and the parent company of boat brands including Manitou, Alumacraft and Quintrex — has entered into a definitive agreement to sell 100 per cent of the outstanding shares of Telwater, an Australian aluminium boat manufacturer it owns, to Yamaha Motor Australia, a subsidiary of Yamaha Motor.

Telwater comprises the operations of the Quintrex, Stacer and Savage brands.

Yamaha Motor Australia has been established in the region since 1983 and is a key player in Australia’s boat industry.

The news of the sale follows BRP’s decision to sell its marine businesses in a bid to boost profits, as the firm focuses on its core powersports activities.

In March, BRP reported a decline in both revenue and profits in fiscal 2025, noting that sales have been impacted by volatile conditions and ongoing uncertainty, including global tariff disputes. As a result, the firm has decided to defer providing financial guidance for fiscal year 2026.

“We are pleased with today’s announcement, our first transaction in the process for the sale of our marine businesses,” says José Boisjoli, president and CEO of BRP. “I would like to sincerely thank all of the talented employees for their contribution and commitment over the years. We know we can count on their professionalism to continue supporting our dealers and customers with dedication through this transition period, until the transaction is completed.”

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval, and is expected to be finalised in the second quarter of BRP’s fiscal 2026.

National Bank Financial Inc. served as financial advisor and Stikeman Elliott LLP acted as legal advisor to BRP on the transaction.
