Cyclops Marine launches Smart Rig Manager for rig monitoring across major displays
UK-based sailing technology firm Cyclops Marine has introduced Smart Rig Manager, a universal load monitoring platform for Garmin, Raymarine and B&G instruments, delivered via a Cyclops Gateway.
The system is designed for sailing yachts and displays rig load data on onboard displays.
Digital tools are already used to monitor rig loading. Cyclops says the focus of its new rig manager is to present that data in a format that supports decision-making during setup, while sailing and also during maintenance.

The software provides on-screen guidance across several operating contexts. At the dock, it displays rig tension targets based on manufacturer specifications, using visual indicators to support initial setup.
Under sail, it provides real-time feedback on rig loading and issues alerts when loads move outside defined thresholds.
After sailing, it offers trip analysis, including load trends and indicators linked to sail use and reefing decisions. It also records data associated with equipment fatigue.
Smart Rig Manager is supplied via a Cyclops gateway and operates with Cyclops Marine load sensors. It can run alongside other applications on multifunction displays and supports remote viewing.
For owners preparing to sail, the system stores target tensions and maximum working loads based on vessel configuration. Cyclops Marine says this allows repeatable setup without manual recalculation, in a similar way to maintaining recommended tyre pressures via a vehicle dashboard.

During operation, the system monitors both overload and underload conditions. Overload can lead to immediate failure, while sustained underloading can contribute to long-term fatigue in standing rigging. The system flags when loads fall outside a defined operating range. Trip data is recorded and can be reviewed to assess loading patterns.
The system includes condition-based maintenance tracking, estimating component lifespan based on recorded usage and load history, which supports maintenance scheduling and replacement planning.
“We firmly believe that Smart Rig Manager can transform the future of yacht ownership, and help protect every stakeholder along the way – from designers, to riggers, to service providers and insurers,” says Ian Howarth, CEO of Cyclops Marine.
