Yacht management companies Fairport Yacht Support and SYM are uniting under the new name Fairport Global, after a merger.

SYM is based in the south of France, and Fairport Yacht Support is based in Florida, US. The new combined entity brings together the two powerhouse organisations from separate geographical territories to offer worldwide yachting services.

This merger is backed by their joint parent company, MarineMax, one of the world’s largest marine and boating retailers. SYM was acquired by luxury yacht brokerage Northrop & Johnson — a MarineMax company — in 2022, and Northrop & Johnson then acquired Fairport Yacht Support in 2023.

“We’re delighted to announce the launch of Fairport Global,” says Angus Mackenzie, managing director of Fairport Global in the US. “This logical strategic move will allow us to leverage international resources and establish a solid presence in new key markets worldwide. Our team is excited to bring our renowned services to customers across the globe and forge lasting relationships within the international yachting industry.

“Backed by MarineMax, we’re equipped with enhanced resources and financial stability, ensuring exceptional service worldwide.”

Fairport Global now comprises over 50 team members from both organisations, collectively managing over 100 yachts.

“Teaming up with Fairport marks an incredible milestone for us at SYM,” says Lisa Martinez, managing director of Fairport Global in Europe. “Together, we’re set to redefine global yacht management. I’m thrilled to be part of this exciting journey ahead.”

As part of its growth plans, Fairport Global has been recruiting new team members in all its international offices. Recent appointments include the promotion of Nate Cook, now head of operations for Fairport Global in the US.

With the promotions of Angus Mackenzie and Lisa Martinez to managing directors of their respective regions, the founders, Ben Young (former SYM) and Graeme Lord (Fairport Yacht Support), will assume the roles of chair with a renewed focus on business development and industry relations.

“We’re thrilled to be embarking on a significant new chapter as SYM joins forces with Fairport. Together, our combined forces are set to bring global superyacht management to new levels,” says Ben Young, founder of SYM.

Graeme Lord, founder of Fairport Yacht Support, adds: “I’m thrilled about the merger of Fairport Yacht Support and SYM. This combines the strengths of two organisations from different corners of the globe, enabling us to offer extraordinary worldwide services in the yacht management sector.

“Fairport has always stood for independence and transparency. Today, as Fairport Global, we continue this legacy, solidifying our position as an industry leader. With our expanded reach, we’re better positioned than ever to support clients across major cruising grounds. I’m proud to see Fairport Global come to life and excited for the journey ahead.”

In conjunction with their group partners, such as IGY Marinas and Newcoast Finance & Insurance, Fairport Global can now offer a wider range of services, including marina berths, crew recruitment and insurance services.
