Fire breaks out at Princess Yachts

Princess Coypool

Fire crews have been called out to a Plymouth premises of British boatbuilder Princess Yachts, after reports of a small fire.

Emergency services were reportedly alerted to the blaze at the Coypool depot on Saturday morning (14 January 2023) around 11.20am.

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service confirmed to the Plymouth Herald that the fire was swiftly bought under control at the 30,000m² site, and that it broke out in the ducting of the building.

“There has been a small fire in the ducting,” the spokesperson said. “Fire crews are making that it is extinguished and all is safe.”

The spokesperson continues: “We were called out at 11.21am. Three fire engines and an officer were in attendance. Crews are still currently on scene making sure there are no hot spots.”

There has been no confirmation of damage caused by the blaze.

In March 2022, fire crews were also called out to the boatbuilder’s Lee Mill site after smoke was seen rising from a vent. Staff were evacuated, and the fire was successfully extinguished.

In 2019, the French billionaire owner of Princess pledged 200million euros to help rebuild the fire-ravaged Notre Dame cathedral.

Business magnate Bernard Arnault’s family and his LVMH luxury goods group pledged to donate the equivalent of £173million towards repairing the 855-year-old Paris landmark.
