FLIR introduces JCU-4 marine camera control unit

FLIR has introduced the JCU-4 remote control, developed for use with FLIR marine thermal and visible camera systems. The unit is compatible with the M232, M300, M400/M400XR and M500 series, as well as with earlier models.
The JCU-4 provides pan, tilt and zoom functionality, along with access to other camera operations via an integrated keypad and joystick. The control system incorporates a three-axis joystick, a 2.9-inch colour LCD screen and a backlit keypad. The LCD is dimmable to assist with vision during low-light or night-time use.
The interface allows for customisation through three programmable keys, enabling quick access to selected camera functions. It is designed to pair with FLIR marine cameras and marine displays or chartplotters using a straightforward configuration process.
‘Designed by mariners, for mariners, the JCU-4 is a meaningful upgrade for those who actively navigate using thermal technology and require dependable and intuitive control of their FLIR camera,’ the company states.

In March, FLIR introduced the Ocean Scout Pro, a new marine handheld thermal camera designed for public safety professionals and mariners requiring enhanced situational awareness. The device features a 640 x 480 thermal detector, providing a 500-metre detection range and a 32-degree field of view.
Teledyne FLIR, a brand owned by American digital imaging giant Teledyne Technologies, the parent company of Raymarine, develops intelligent sensing systems, unmanned solutions and integrated technologies for defence and industrial applications. Founded in 1978, the company has approximately 4,000 employees worldwide. Teledyne acquired FLIR in 2021 in a deal worth around US$8bn.
