Founder of Sunseeker International, Robert Braithwaite, passed away this morning

“It is with the deepest sorrow I tell you that Robert Braithwaite CBE DL founder of Sunseeker International passed peacefully earlier this morning (7 March 2019), having fought prostate cancer and bowel cancer successfully. Alzheimer’s was the battle he lost, having bravely tackled this dreadful disease the past few years,” says David M Ward, Director Robert Braithwaite Ltd.

Robert Braithwaite forged his career in boat building, from 1969 when he dreamt of building a new kind of boat. He used revolutionary materials and technology throughout his builds, making sure that his passion, of looking at things differently, was fostered.

This became an obsession at Sunseeker, where Robert grew the company by expanding its shipyards in Poole and creating a global distribution network.

Sunseeker appeared in four James Bond films, which led to Braithwaite appearing in a cameo role in the film Quantum of Solace.

The funeral will be private followed by a memorial in a few months’ time.
