Garmin has introduced the Signal VHF 400 and VHF 220 marine radios, adding new compact VHF communication systems to its marine electronics range.

The radios feature 3.5-inch colour touchscreens with edge-to-edge glass and are designed for installation where helm space is limited. The Signal VHF 400 includes an integrated Class B AIS transponder, enabling the transmission of vessel identification, position, course and speed data to nearby AIS-equipped vessels.

“When performance and reliability are of utmost importance, the new Garmin Signal VHF radios provide mariners with peace of mind on the water,” says Susan Lyman, Garmin’s vice president of global consumer sales and marketing. “With a compact, yet modern design, the all-in-one radios offer advanced software features to enable reliable offshore communication when boaters need it most.”

The Signal VHF series includes automated squelch and adaptive noise cancellation intended to reduce background noise during radio communication. Garmin says the radios can automatically record up to three minutes of audio transmission from active channels, while advanced watch modes allow users to monitor up to six channels simultaneously.

The radios also support Class D DSC distress calling functions, meaning users can send distress alerts containing vessel information to nearby vessels and emergency responders.

A supplied fist mic includes a built-in speaker rated at 95 dBA at 0.5 metres and can be mounted away from the main unit.

Garmin says the Signal VHF 400 supports VHF, DSC and AIS communication through a single VHF antenna. The unit also includes an integrated GPS antenna and receiver, diagnostic tools and support for 12V and 24V electrical systems.

The company has also introduced the Garmin Signal RM 100 remote station, which allows users to control Signal VHF radios from a secondary helm or flybridge through the Garmin Marine Network. The remote station includes an intercom feature between connected units, a 3.5-inch colour display and a matching fist mic.

The radios integrate with Garmin chartplotters through NMEA 2000, Garmin Marine Network 1.0 and Garmin BlueNet. Garmin says the systems also support compatible loudhailers, external speakers and external heading sensor data.

Users can configure radio settings, program MMSI numbers and receive software updates through the ActiveCaptain smartphone app using built-in Wi‑Fi connectivity.

The Garmin Signal VHF 400, VHF 220 and RM 100 remote station are available from 1 June 2026. Suggested retail pricing starts at £859.99 for the VHF 220, while the VHF 400 is priced at £1,299.99 and the RM 100 remote station at £519.99.
