Sailing apparel brand Gill has been appointed the official technical clothing partner for ExpeditionZero, an adventure sailing firm.

ExpeditionZero aims to produce the world’s first fleet of net-zero expedition yachts, designed with recyclable materials and powered by renewable energy. The company’s vessels aim to be optimised for commercial operators such as marine research, filming and adventure tourism.

ExpeditionZero’s first yacht, an upcycled Challenge 72,  is currently undergoing refit in France and set for launch next year.

Under this partnership, Gill will supply technical clothing for all ExpeditionZero yachts. Charter operators and crew will have access to Gill’s high-performance offshore gear. The collaboration will also enable real-world testing and feedback of Gill’s products in expedition conditions.

Gill recently enhanced the sustainability credentials of its clothing, with 98 per cent of its new OS2 offshore system made from recycled materials and durable water repellents free from PFAS chemicals. The brand’s packaging is also fully recyclable.

Andy Hindley, board member of ExpeditionZero and former COO of the America’s Cup, says: “This partnership is a perfect fit. Gill’s reputation for innovation, performance and reliability makes them the ideal apparel partner for sustainable offshore exploration. As we push the limits of what’s possible in net-zero sailing, we need partners who share our vision and understand the demands of operating in the world’s most challenging environments.”

Further commenting on the partnership, Matt Clark, product development and sustainability director at Gill, adds: “Working with ExpeditionZero gives us a unique opportunity to test and refine our technical clothing in the exact conditions our gear is designed for — open ocean, high-latitude expeditions and extended offshore use. These yachts represent the future of sustainable marine operations, and we’re proud to support a project that blends innovation, environmental leadership and commercial viability. This is where performance apparel should be: at the heart of progress.”

Scheduled for 2027, a flagship expedition through the Northwest Passage will be bookable through ExpeditionZero’s sister company, Wavysail Adventures.
