GoBoat Australia has been acquired by d’Albora Marinas, a marina and hospitality network with 16 locations along Australia’s east coast.

Self-drive boat rental company GoBoat was founded in 2017 by Nick Tyrrell on Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra. The company operates self-drive electric picnic boats across multiple locations and currently operates at d’Albora Cabarita Point, d’Albora The Spit in Mosman, d’Albora Akuna Bay, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Canberra at Kingston. Further expansion is planned through 2026 under the new ownership.

The business reports that it has welcomed more than 500,000 guests since launch and operates a fleet of over 73 electric vessels. Vessel manufacturing has been carried out onshore since 2022.

The acquisition provides GoBoat with access to d’Albora’s marina network and infrastructure. D’Albora Marinas operates 16 sites along the east coast and is owned by MA Financial Group.

“GoBoat’s electric boating experience perfectly complements d’Albora’s marina portfolio and will bring eco-friendly and accessible boating experiences to more Australians than ever before,” says Nick Tyrrell, founder and CEO of GoBoat Australia. “We’re excited to bring GoBoat’s unique sustainable offering into the d’Albora family, unlocking further growth and new opportunities into the future.”

In 2023, MA Financial Group acquired d’Albora, from Balmain Corporation. The deal, which comprised d’Albora’s portfolio of 10 marinas across Australia‘s eastern seaboard, was worth A$225m (US$150m).

Brad Couper, managing director for principal investments and real estate with MA Financial, adds: “It’s an exciting business opportunity for d’Albora, and we hope it encourages more people to use our marinas and enjoy the Australian boating lifestyle. This partnership increases public access to our marinas and waterways and highlights the benefits of private capital investing in public assets.”
