Kiwi underwater robotics company changes name

Boxfish Robotics

Underwater technology company Boxfish Research has officially renamed itself as Boxfish Robotics. The New Zealand-headquartered company says the decision reflects its evolving focus and product line, with its commitment to underwater exploration and robotics technology.

The original name, Boxfish Research, was rooted in ties to scientific exploration. At that time, the company was more focused on offering 360 cameras, ROVs and custom solutions, catering to clientele in marine research.

According to Boxfish, as the company’s product portfolio has advanced, with its range of robotics systems, the need grew for a new name that better represented the current scope and underwater robotics.

Boxfish Robotics specialises in the design of ROVs and HAUVs with applications ranging from submerged asset inspection, offshore energy, marine science and use with expedition research vessels to biosecurity and cinematography.

Boxfish autonomous drone ARV-i
In collaboration with Norwegian company Transmark Subsea, Boxfish has developed the autonomous underwater resident vehicle, ARV-i, tailored to continuously monitor and inspect underwater assets for offshore industries. Boxfish says ARV-i is powered by advanced artificial intelligence and sensor integration, facilitates automated and remote operations, while ensuring efficient and precise data collection.

Craig Anderson, co-founder of Boxfish Robotics says: “As Boxfish Robotics, we are delighted to announce the renaming, symbolising a transformative phase in our operations. Boxfish Robotics embodies our passion for innovation and dedication to the future of our oceans. Through our advanced robotics systems, we aspire to empower researchers, explorers, and industry professionals worldwide, facilitating a deeper understanding and responsible interaction with the underwater world.”
