Lürssen’s secretive 90-metre Norn makes maiden voyage

NORN Project 1601

German shipyard Lürssen has launched its latest vessel, the 90-metre Norn, previously known as project 1601.

Lürssen has confirmed the owners are a couple who previously sailed a 20-year-old, 70-metre yacht built by the shipyard, which is based in Bremerhaven. It has been reported that Norn is a replacement for the 70-metre expedition yacht Skat, which was delivered in 2002, and shares numerous design features with Norn.

The exterior has been designed by Espen Oeino, who gave the yacht a striking design dominated by flat surfaces, straight lines and angular corners.

This geometrical precision permeates the yacht’s interiors, which were designed by Dölker + Voges and echo the same design themes as her exterior. Cornelsen & Partner acted as the project manager in the owners’ team throughout Lürssen‘s construction process.

The yacht is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and engineering systems including zero-speed stabilisers, an outside cinema, and a liftable pool floor with dance floor illumination. A dynamic positioning system enables electronic anchoring in sensitive and remote areas, said to help protect the seabed and allow for safe mooring regardless of water depth.

In March 2023, the colossal 146.4-metre superyacht Opera made its maiden voyage in Portsmouth, after leaving Lürssen’s Bremen facility in north Germany.
