Marine bonding tape ‘portfolio-d’ by Avery Dennison

Avery Dennison Performance Tapes has introduced a marine bonding portfolio which it says can be used for decking, interior mounting, display mounting, electronics and wire harness securement.
The portfolio, the company says, is a selection of pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes designed for the unique demands of the marine industry – so it’s talking exposure to moisture, salt, chemicals and UV rays.
“Our products have been used in the marine industry for years,” says Jim Brazytis, senior marketing communications manager. “As we strive to make it easier for OEMs and converters to do business with us, we thought it would be best to package the tapes suited for marine use in one portfolio.
Seemingly, the tapes are designed to last the life of the vessel, even in harsh environments. They enable manufacturers to join, mount, attach or fasten without the use of mechanical fasteners or wet glue systems (full details are available on the manufacturer’s website).
“Our specialised pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes are engineered for challenging marine bonding requirements,” says Danielle Wiltrout, product manager within the organisation. “Not only do they hold up well in wet, salty conditions, but they’re versatile and easy to use. This helps save assembly time and effort, and helps manufacturers be more productive. Manufacturers can choose from multiple PSA options like peel-and-stick, high-shear and foam-bonding or order customised tape constructions to meet their specific application needs.”
The tapes feature a variety of acrylic and rubber adhesive chemistries and are compatible for bonding with a variety of substrates, including fibreglass, metal and wood. PSAs can also replace screws, nuts and bolts, making assembly easier while reducing weight and promoting sustainability.
“We test our products to the specifications required by manufacturers,” Brazytis says, “which in many instances includes advanced weather, ageing and conditioning testing, like exposure to salt water and chemicals. These activities offer confidence our products will stand up to the application demands and specification of the manufacturer.”
