Marine tech company Zelim names sales director
Edinburgh-based Zelim has appointed Mike Collier as sales director to spearhead the maritime technology company’s development in the cruise and defence sectors.
Collier took up the position in January 2026 and will lead the organisation’s focus on key sectors globally including the cruise and defence industries.
Collier was previously at MARSS, where he led business development for the cruise and defence markets.
His 20-year career includes six years in the cruise sector at Carnival Corporation, where Collier led the working group that developed ISO 21195 (man overboard detection), which was formally published in 2020 and forms the global standard for man-overboard detection.
He joins Zelim as the company ramps up for a significant period of growth, following the first cruise ship deployment of its man overboard detection technology (called Zoe) in 2025, and the recent launch of its defence business unit.
Zelim is actively encouraging broader cruise industry adoption of Zoe on passenger ships, helping cruise lines meet safety expectations and potentially future regulatory requirements.
Collier will work alongside Barry Park, who joined the company in early 2025 as sales director for the energy sector.
Zelim also has ambitions to expand the sales function further in the future, adding even more diverse talent to the team.
Sam Mayall, Zelim’s founder and CEO says: “We are delighted to have Mike on board, bringing his unique background and an in-depth understanding of both the defence and cruise sectors. He joins us at a pivotal moment for the company, as we look to continue our growth strategy globally, and deepen our reach in priority markets.”
Collier adds: “Zelim is a business with real momentum, a clear story and a team that genuinely believes in what it is building. I’m looking forward to making an impact by building strong, trusted relationships with customers as the company scales.”
Zelim was founded in 2017.
