Miranda Merron finishes Vendée Globe

Miranda Merron crossed the finish line of Vendée Globe yesterday, Weds 17 February at 23.16 (and 51 seconds). She takes 22nd place in the race. Her race time is 101 days, 8 hours, 56 minutes and 51 seconds. Merron is the 9th woman to complete a Vendée Globe, and the 5th British navigator.

“I’ve been in a good mood most of the time. I tried to enjoy every moment. I haven’t had any big technical problems, besides the first month of racing.

“I’m very happy to be here, to have closed the tour, and proud of those who believed it.

“I’m very proud, simply proud. There have been so many good times including the passage of the Horn, with a beautiful day.

“I sailed conservatively because the goal was to finish. But I’ve always been in a good mood.

“I’ve been in great shape for three months, but since crossing the line, all the tension is falling down and I’m hurting everywhere.”
