Mumbles crew pluck man to safety

The volunteer crew of the Mumbles lifeboats had a late night call tonight in Swansea Bay.

At around 11.15 UK Coastguard called for the aid of both inshore and All Weather lifeboat to aid in the search for a person in the water off the West Pier at the entrance to the River Tawe.

Within 15 minutes the Inshore lifeboat The Mark Lott was at the scene and joined the multi agency search along with Coastguard Rescue, South Wales Police and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter.

The man was located 1 mile South of the Pier by the crew of the All Weather Lifeboat Roy Barker IV. The male was taken by inshore lifeboat and handed to the care of a medical team and ambulance at Swansea Marina.

Coxswain of the Mumbles Lifeboat Martin Double said ‘He was lucky to be spotted after drifting so far out. We had stopped in the water to start our commence search position when Adam Evans one of our volunteers spotted him. We’re very grateful for the assistance of the members of the public who assisted with the search too. We as always urge anyone who thinks they may have spotted someone entering the water to contact the UK Coastguard on 999’.
