Nautor Swan gives update on 44-metre Alloy 44, its largest yacht to date

Nautor Swan has unveiled the Swan Alloy 44, a 44-metre sailing superyacht that the company says is the largest yacht in its 60-year history.

The yacht marks the first model in a new Swan Alloy line and the Finnish builder’s entry into the sailing superyacht sector under Sanlorenzo ownership. The line is planned to include a 50-metre model and a future ketch, aligned with Nautor Swan’s plans for a new range of aluminium super-maxis.

“Sixty years of Swan gives us an extraordinary legacy, but also the responsibility to keep moving forward,” says Massimo Perotti, executive chairman of Sanlorenzo.

“Swan Alloy 44 is a defining expression of our ambition. The largest Swan ever conceived, opening a new world of performance cruising for the brand and its community. It represents the beginning of Sanlorenzo’s journey into sailing superyachts.”

The Swan Alloy 44 combines Nautor Swan’s Finnish heritage with Italian construction expertise and Dutch aluminium shipbuilding. The hull and deck began construction in March at Gouwerok Shipyard in the Netherlands; the next step will be transferring the yacht to Viareggio, Italy, for outfitting, commissioning, and final delivery.

Nautor Swan has appointed brokerage firm Edmiston to sell the Swan Alloy range.

Aluminium construction

Malcolm McKeon designed the yacht’s naval architecture and exterior design, while Studio Liaigre is responsible for the interiors. The aluminium structure has been developed using Finite Element Analysis to optimise weight while maintaining strength and structural integrity.

The build also uses specialist aluminium fabrication techniques, including rounded base profiles rather than conventional angular transitions.

McKeon says the design was intended to retain Swan’s performance character at a much larger scale.

“A performance yacht should look fast even when standing still, so every line and proportion has a purpose – communicating capability before the yacht even moves,” he says. “Aluminium gives us the freedom to explore new possibilities, while the elegance and restraint of the design ensure the result remains unmistakably Swan.”

The interior by Studio Liaigre uses large windows and connections between indoor and outdoor spaces to maintain views of the sea. The upper deck is designed around social and relaxation spaces, while the lower areas use a more intimate arrangement.

Dual-energy system

The Swan Alloy 44 also incorporates a dual-energy system combining wind power, hydrogeneration, and energy management.

As the yacht sails, its propeller can drive a generator to replenish the onboard batteries. Nautor Swan says this can reduce reliance on diesel generators during passages, allowing the yacht to meet some of its energy needs with power generated while sailing.

The system builds on experience from Sanlorenzo’s hybrid yacht programme and previous Nautor Swan projects, including the Swan 51, Swan 88, and Swan 128, with the Swan 88 previously described as the first Swan with hybrid propulsion.

The Swan Alloy 44 is currently under construction, with first delivery expected in summer 2028.
