Nautor Swan has started construction of the Swan Alloy 44, a 43.5-metre aluminium sailing yacht. The project is the largest sailing yacht built by the Finnish shipyard and the first aluminium yacht produced in its 60-year history.

The yacht is the first model in the Swan Alloy series, a range of aluminium sailing yachts above 40 metres. Construction has begun at Gouwerok Shipyard in the Netherlands, where fabrication of the aluminium hull structure is underway. Initial work includes welding structural sections such as the keel and engine room foundations.

After completion of the hull and deck, the vessel will be transported to Viareggio, Italy. Final outfitting and delivery will take place there, with launch scheduled for 2028.

The exterior design and naval architecture are by Malcolm McKeon. Interior design is being developed by Studio Liaigre in Paris.

Massimo Perotti, executive chairman of Sanlorenzo, attended the start of construction and has commissioned the first hull. “This is my first sailing yacht, and I feel a special emotion after so many motor yachts,” says Perotti.

“For Nautor Swan, this project opens a new chapter. It takes the brand into dimensions never explored before, while remaining faithful to the values that have defined Swan for sixty years.”

The Swan Alloy 44 has a beam of 9.45m and a telescopic keel, providing a variable draft of 4.3m to 6.3m. Estimated gross tonnage is 299 GT. The mast will be supplied by Southern Spars and the sails by Doyle.

The yacht incorporates a dual-energy propulsion concept intended to support onboard energy generation and storage while sailing. The approach builds on hybrid propulsion development carried out by Sanlorenzo to date, and previous technical work undertaken by Nautor Swan on the Swan 51, Swan 88 and Swan 128.

The Swan Alloy 44 programme is part of Nautor Swan’s expansion into the aluminium sailing yacht segment following its acquisition by Sanlorenzo in 2024.

Nautor Swan has appointed brokerage firm Edmiston to sell the Swan Alloy range.
