New Rodkicker 50 for larger yachts
Seldén Mast is launching its Rodkicker 50, a rigid vang designed to enhance sail handling during reefing, preventing the boom from falling into the cockpit or onto the coach roof.
Equipped with gas springs, the Rodkicker 50 automatically elevates the boom upon release of the kicking strap, making it particularly effective for adjusting the main sail in light winds.
Seldén Mast is the UK subsidiary of the Seldén Group, with facilities for manufacturing carbon, dinghy and custom yacht spars.
Rodkicker 50 joins the Seldén Mast line of manually operated Rodkickers and is designed for yachts ranging from 50ft to 55ft. While the manufacturer’s hydraulic vangs are often preferred for this size of yachts, the traditional Rodkicker design offers benefits due to its straightforward installation process.
Adding control lines accessible from both sides enables crew members on the windward side to quickly release the vang and avoid broaching. The vang features a 4:1 cascade system in Dyneema core – if a 4:1 tackle is added, the overall purchase increases to 16:1. The unit generates a return force of 10,000N, utilising two Seldén gas springs, each rated at 5,000N.
