Oasis Marine Power testing electric power buoy

Jebb Smith Ltd has created a new subsidiary, Oasis Marine Power, to drive green marine energy solutions. Its aim is to build on the parent company’s marine mooring systems.

The first product of Oasis Marine Power is the Oasis Power Buoy. This mooring buoy, with electrical power supply, is initially for installation at offshore wind farms. Hybrid and electric crew transfer vessels will replenish their batteries in field before returning to port, making them fully viable and non-reliant on fuel.

The buoy harnesses its power directly from the wind turbines, providing a zero-emission energy source, thereby providing a dual function as an offshore mooring and charging point.

With the design and build phase nearing completion, the company has released an animation demonstrating the offshore charging system in use.

“This animation showcases the design that will revolutionise the wind farm industry,” says George Smith, director. “A key feature lies in the simplicity of use and maintenance. Our vision for a greener future inspired the Oasis Power Buoy. It is already gathering significant interest from wind farm operators as they look to operate in the cleanest way possible, and this greatly increases their ability to do so.”

Testing is due to commence Spring 2021 with commercial launch in 2022. The project has been awarded funding from MarRI-UK – an initiative supported by the Department for Transport to develop technological innovation that improves UK Maritime services and operations.
